Bulls to Steers

In December it is going to be time to castrate my bulls so my uncle said for me to find a cheap ticket and the dates in which i want to come out and he would pay for my ticket. Anyway today my bulls are 5 weeks and 4 days old.  I miss them.  My last cow hickey from B (or #4) is fading away. Hey it lasted a long time, 6 days. Anyway I gotta go I am going to go back to looking up information about colleges and stuff, later

MY Guys!!

Well, i have had my calves now for excatly one month (31 days)

And they are 34-35 days old right now, which means that they only have to stay on the bottle for another 4 weeks....

Other than that they are doing wonderful....

One of them has an absyss on one side of its jaw and when its ready it will start to puss and then we have to take a knife and lance it and get everything else out. This is just a little infection on the jaw that is caused by something inside the mouth which is most likely got from eating something or more likely chewing on something that it got a bacteria from.

other than that nothing is really going on, ill make sure to keep you posted though, later

Yea Man...

So my calves have been great, all are doing super well, and they are eating grain (sweet cob) out of a bin and also drinking water out of a bucket. We have been giving 2 of them 4cc's of Liquamycin (Antibotic) every 24 hours and that has been helping then somewhat...

With my uncle's cows that are grown, we had to round up and put in the corral this morning because I noticed that 2 of them have pink eye (disease carried by flies) so since my uncle is out of town he told me to have grandpa help me and put them through the squeeze shoot and give them a shot of penicylin directly in their infected eye, and also give them 5cc's of triamen ( i think that's what its called) in their hip, or any place where they have muscle....

In a week or two after the pink eye clears up off of the two holstein steers we are planning on taking them to auction, we sold they other 4 last week, anyway im going to go later...

Such a relief....

So last ngiht we gave that sick calf an antibotic and it was still laying down, and then this morning we gave him electrolites, so that should help him gain some strength to get better. He has the most meat on him, more than the other steers. Last I woke up several times and i was so worried that he was going to die. I actually dreamed that I wanted to go to the barn so bad, but no one would let me. ::sigh::

Since it survived through last night, it now has  a better chance. We still have to give it the antibotic every 24 hours and the medicine once everyday, we've been giving it to him in the mornings, and in the evenings we have been giving it just a regular bottle wth the milk replacement.

Anyway the other guys are doing really well. The have all been drinking all of their milk and then also a bottle of water. The water will help hydrate them more, which is always a good thing.

One thing that i have to be careful about is when im making the calves their milk. i have to make sure that i dont make the milk too rich, other wise the calf could take diarreha. Thats what the sick calf has now, and it can kill them if you dont do anything about it.

Anyway im going to go so peace

WOW.

WOW! This morning has been a long one, and now its 4:30! geez time goes by so fast, anyway this morning started out by me feeding all the animals and then around 11 am me and my uncle kenton left go to to Oakdale, we gave a goat to some people (it was a pig goat and very mean) and then we went to the oakdale house and trimmed some trees and then left and went and got my cows...now here's where the real story begins.......

well we get there and it turns out that the cows (actually steers) im getting are only 3-4 days old. we thought they were going to be about 10 days old. I only wanted 6 but got 7 because i got a free one because his left front hoof is clubbed, which just means its turned under and little bit, but none the less a minor defect. and $300 later, we went to Escalon feed and supply and got my calf milk replacement then $100 later, we were on our way home. once we got home we had to spread the straw we bought down in the stalls where they were going to be. then we started unloading them, it turns out that the one with the defect walks the best!, then there was this one black one that we had to carry out of the trailer and we decided to give him a bottle of milk, becausae he was dehydrated. So i sat there and bottle fed him for about 15 minutes and then we picked him up again and carried him to his own specail stall that way we can keep a close eye on him.

Anyway they are sooo small!! lol, tonight im going to try to upload some pictures onto the computer so if you want me to send you some of them, leave a comment and tell me who you are or your email address!

Wish me luck with all of them!! I hope they all live!
